Nintendo’s site in Japan tells all

Nintendo is going to bring out a new controller which appears to be a revision of the original Classic Controller, but the new Classic Controller Pro that appeared on the Nintendo Web site in Japan is more in the spirit of the current controllers on other systems.

The Classic Controller Pro does not appear to be a replacement for the Classic Controller, but instead a different choice for those longing for a controller that is closer to what gamers are used to using on both Microsoft and Sony consoles, with the bumper buttons in the front and grips that make it DualShock-like in appearance.

The decision to bring out the Classic Controller Pro might have more to do with the updated GameCube titles that the company is bringing to the Wii platform in the “New Play Control!” series. The original Classic Controller had its roots in the classic games that were being released in for the Wii because many gamers found the controller necessary to play these kinds of titles that were designed for a controller of this type.

The Classic Controller Pro appears to use the same type of connectivity as the Classic Controller did, meaning that the controller attaches to the Wii remote using a short cable.

While those in Japan appear to be slated to be able to get the Classic Controller Pro starting at some point in the Summer of 2009, no date for a North American release has be suggested; however, we hear whispers that those in North America will see it in the late Summer or more likely the early Fall.
