Releases starting to come into focus

The publishers and developers of titles for the Xbox 360 platform look to be trying to get the promotion machine rolling with many announcements today of what the upcoming release slate will look like in the months ahead.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which recently had its publishing rights acquired by Atari, is now slated for release on June 16th, 2009, to be released as part of Sony’s celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie. In addition to the game dropping of the release on June 16th, you can also pick up the new Blu-ray release of the Ghostbusters: 25th Anniversary Edition, which will launch on the same day. The PlayStation 3 version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, should also release on the same day.

Electronic Arts has announced that the Skate 2 demo will arrive for the Xbox 360 later today for download in the Xbox Live Market place, with Skate 2 still hitting retailer shelves on January 23, 2009. The Black Box developed sequel has high hopes to garner as much acclaim as the initial release of Skate did. The demo will include a peek at both the single play and multiplayer modes, as well as a glimpse of the customization tools included within the game and new ability to jump off and move objects to create the ultimate skating environment. Once the demo is released, Electronic Arts should be able to get a better idea of how well they can expect the sales of Skate 2 to do. The PlayStation 3 version of the Skate 2 demo will arrive for download on the PlayStation 3 Network on January 15th, 2009, as well.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer on hiatus, as rumors had circulated about the title’s demise. Sega is now confirming that the title should arrive for the Xbox 360 during the April to June time frame, with an official date coming in the months ahead. Aliens: Colonial Marines is based on an original story by noted writers, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, and is said to feature a fresh take on the Aliens franchise with squad-based combat systems and new weapons to check out. The Gearbox developed title is said to more closely follow the look and feel of the movies in the Aliens franchise while taking advantage of the features of the Xbox 360 to deliver a unique experience.

2K Games, in an effort to boost sagging sales of some of their titles, has released a $10 coupon that you can use at retail to get an additional $10 off select 2K Sports, 2K Games and 2K Play titles. The promotion will run through the end of the month and includes NBA 2K9, NHL 2K9, BioShock, Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution, Carnival Games, Carnival Games MiniGolf and Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess. Of course, not all games on all platforms are included in this deal, but with some of the price cuts that have taken place at the retail level on some of these titles, you could get a very good deal if you are thinking about the purchase of one of the titles on a platform included in the promotion. Visit www.2kgames.com/coupon to download and print the coupon.
