NXE launch plagued by freezes

Many themes not compatible or cut off

We were complimenting Microsoft yesterday about the smooth nature of the rollout of the New Xbox Experience update, but maybe we spoke a little too soon, as now reports are starting to find our way to us that many users are experiencing some freezing issues since the update.

Other than the issues with some missing content and Sony movie titles not being available for streaming via Netflix we thought our experience was typical and things were good. It seems now that these freezing issues happen when entering or exiting the avatar editing mode. The freezes in some cases resulted in the need for an entire reboot of the console to resolve the issue.

In addition to the issues with the freezes, it also seems that older themes that were released prior to the announcement of the NXE lack some compatibility with the NXE. This has left many users a bit unhappy, as these in many cases are theme packs that they paid to download.

Some newer themes like the Gears of War 2 theme and the Fable II theme have been optimized for use with the NXE. It is not clear if Microsoft intends to do anything about this issue or not, but we suspect that little can be done to resolve the issue short of releasing an updated version of the theme.

While Microsoft has not released any official statement concerning any of the issues, we suspect that they are looking into the situation surrounding the freezing and will hopefully issue a quick fix to resolve the issue. We do not know what can be done about the themes issue, but one thing is for sure… we suspect that sale of themes compatible with the NXE are sure to go up while users adapt to the new interface.
