Benchmark scales well

We had a chance to try Egosoft's newest addition to the X3 series, as these guys decided to launch the rolling demo with an integrated benchmark. It looks pretty impressive and manages to stress the system, especially during the fourth and most demanding level, which is the one with the maximum polygon number.

The new X3: Terran Conflict was officially released on October 17th and even lived up to its first, version 1.2 and version 1.2.1, updates, but the rolling demo with integrated benchmark was released on November 4th. The X3: Terran conflict is the stand-alone game set in Egosoft's famous universe of X3 and the story is now set in Earth's own solar system.

The benchmark looks pretty decent and it is made out of four parts named Trade, Fight, Build and Think. The last one should be the most demanding one, as it contains a very high polygon count; but as far as our test shows the first one is far more demanding, as it manages to lower the average framerate to 45.3.

Our test system with Intel's E8400 clocked at reference 3.0GHz on DFI's LP DK P45 T2RS motherboard with 4GB of G.Skill memory and MSI's HD 4850 reference card managed to score an overall average frame rate of 76.6 at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 16xAF.

You can download the demo here and we opened a forum thread if you want to post your results.

Here are some screenshots from the benchmark.
