Easily one of the most anticipated titles to be released this holiday season is the sequel to highly successful Gears of War. Launch events are set to headline the November 6th release of the title on the Xbox 360.

GameStop has announced that it will be selling Gears of War 2, with launch events starting at 9 P.M. local time at 3,500 Game Stop locations nationwide. Those visiting their local Game Stop will be able to get their copy of Gears of War 2 starting at 12:01 A.M.

Game Stop will host a mega “Gears of War 2 Midnight Mayhem” event at the Los Angeles Universal City Walk location that will feature celebrity appearances and an autograph signing with Epic Games developer, Cliff Blezinski. Other stores are expected to also offer the title for sale at 12:01 A.M. local time on November 7th. So, check your local retailer for additional information on upcoming events.

Microsoft Europe also announced that it will have a special edition Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 60GB Pro system bundle that will be available in France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Portugal, Hungary and the Czech Republic. It is not known what will be included, if anything, beyond the Gears of War 2 title, but we expect more details to come to light over the next couple of days.

As for the title, initial reviews of the title (which was released to reviewers late last week) seem exceptionally positive, with the game getting very high scores, if not perfect scores in most reviews. It is expected that Gears of War 2 coupled with Microsoft’s low price strategy could contribute to it crushing Sony and Nintendo this holiday season.
