Wake Island officially a part of 2142

DICE released the much anticipated 1.5 Update to Battlefield 2142, after what they claim was a “successful open beta.” As we have told you in our past stories on the 1.50 update, this marks the first time that DICE has gone to the community to make content developed outside of DICE part of an official release.

Features of the 1.5 Update include -

- Added community maps, Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle.

- Added the ability to use widescreen resolutions.

- Added No Vehicles mode.

- Added Conquest Assault mode.

- Changed the volume control for the Commander Voice Over on request of the esports community.

- Changes made to pod steering mechanism to improve control while limiting pod surfing.

- Fixed the loading issue caused by corrupt Radial.cdb file

- Various changes made to prevent cheating.

The Sir. Community (www.sircommunity.com), who developed the Wake Island 2142 map, and Jason Brice (www.MGXCLAN.com), who developed the Operation Shingle map, have been working to implement a variety of feedback and suggestions from the beta to improve both maps for the final 1.5 release.

Checking in at almost 177MB for the incremental update from 1.4 to 1.5 or 527MB for the full 1.5 update, it is obvious that a considerable amount of effort has gone into this update.

We played around with the 1.5 Update during the beta process and we were impressed with it in beta form. With the new fixes that have been made in the release version we can honestly say that this has been one of the best updates to Battlefield 2142 since the release of the game. In some ways, with the release of Wake Island 2142 and Operation Shingle map,s it might even be more fun than the Northern Strike Booster Pack that DICE released some time ago.

It remains to been seen if this update can breathe new life into Battlefield 2142, but we can tell you that many in the Battlefield community have been abuzz about the addition of Wake Island map since it was announced, and the level of excitement that it has generated is surprising for a title of this age.

If you put down Battlefield 2142 or you uninstalled it, it is certainly worth your time to have a look at the 1.5 Update, as it offers some new fresh game play on a map that most of us already know. Now, if we could only get the Market Garden map for 2142 that would just about make things complete.
