PSOne / 2 and DVD movies to 1080p

Sony updated the Playstation 3 firmware to v1.8. The new firmware will allow PSOne, PS2 and DVD movies to be upscaled to full 1080p resolution by using the HDMI interface.

The new update also comes with Remote Play. This way you can access your PS3 through a PSP, of course that will only be possible after updating your PSP to firmware v3.5 which will be available later in May. Another interesting new tweak is that with this new update, the PS3 will be DLNA compatible (Digital Living Network Alliance). This means that you will be able to play content from local networked DLNA compatible devices and see it on your TV screen.

The firmware is available today.
