AT&T to get OS 6 BlackBerry first

Our sources from the land of RIM tell us that apparently AT&T will get the first BlackBerry slider form factor out of the gate that will be running BlackBerry OS Version 6. According to our moles, this 3G GSM version of the slider, which is known as the BlackBerry Bold 9800, does not mean that a CDMA 3G version isn’t around the corner for Verizon, as well. Apparently, however, AT&T is going to release it first.

While some have suggested that this was the plan all along, others tell us that the GSM 3G version is just further along in the development process when combined with OS 6 than the CDMA 3G version. The news that AT&T will get the BlackBerry slider first is not really a surprise when you consider that AT&T has been one of RIM’s strongest partners in the U.S.

As for T-Mobile and Sprint in the U.S., sources tell us that T-Mobile is likely to get it at some point in the future, and Sprint is apparently waiting for a different BlackBerry offering instead of the slider. Some suggest that Sprint has too much other inventory to move and is more interested in pushing its new HTC EVO 4G device instead.
