First carrier in U.S. to carry the Dell model

AT&T will claim the distinction of being the first U.S.-based carrier of the Dell Mini 3 Android-powered smart phone when the company adds it later this year. The news is quite a big win by Dell who has been attempting to break into the smart phone arena with their latest model.

While the Mini 3 does not have some of the latest features found on other Android models, it does carry the Dell branding and it is Android powered, which AT&T is hopeful will help translate into sales. When the Mini 3 is compared to other Android models such as the Droid or Nexus One, it does appear to come up a little short, according the whispers we hear.

AT&T is planning to make the Mini 3 available during the first half of 2010, but exact pricing has yet to be announced. The good news for Dell is that if the device gains some traction it could get more carriers interested in picking up future Dell models.

In addition to the announcement of the carrier picking up Dell, the company also has now officially confirmed that it will be adding the Palm WebOS models as well in the first half of 2010.
