DROID launch could be the ticket

Motorola will get its new DROID slider smart phone into the hands of consumers starting on November 6th on Verizon. When it releases it will go for $199 with a two-year contract with Verizon.

The DROID, which is powered by the 2.0 version of the Android OS, offers a compelling set of features, including the 3.7” WVGA capacitive display with a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. Besides the basics the DROID offers a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, and dual LED flash with the ability to capture video at 24 fps with a resolution of 720x480. Unlike other Android units, the DROID will be the first to offer GPS with full map integration and free turn by turn directions. The 3G connectivity is handled by EVDO in this case and offers both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity support. The Verizon model will come with a 16GB Micro SDHC card as part of the bundle for storage.

Overall, the DROID does represent some of the best design that we have seen so far on Android-powered models and it comes in at the right price with the right set of features. It could finally signal that Motorola is back and ready to jump back into the smart phone arena again with a device that consumers will like. From what we have seen of it so far we are impressed, and it does appear that Motorola got it right this time around. The real question is will it sell?
