Might be part of a bigger plan for the company

We told you previously about Sling Media’s development of SlingPlayer for iPhone. It has now been released, but in what has to be described as a strange turn of events, AT&T is allowing the use of the application but only over WiFi connections, with no streaming using SlingPlayer over 3G.

The company claims that too many people using the application on iPhone could clog their 3G network and grind things to a near halt. We think they have other motives, and that it might be their own iPhone application that is in development to be able to stream AT&T’s U-verse content over their network. This seems to be the popular opinion of why they are not allowing it at the moment.

It is really hard to believe that a lack of bandwidth is the real issue. We believe that the company can say what they will about the situation, but other solutions have to pose a similar problem for the company. It is hard to say how this will play out, but one thing is for certain, and that is that we have not heard the last of this.
