Sooner than expected

Although Motorola announced that the MOTOSURF A3100 was going to be available in Q1, we didn't expect to see it for sale this soon after the product announcement which was a mere nine days ago. The handset has just gone on sale in Taiwan, which must be a new record for a mobile phone to be available after the announcement.

Although we can't say we're overly impressed by the handset or the features, it's an improvement on previous Windows Mobile devices from Motorola. At NT$15,900 (€363/$477/£325) without a contract, it could be a hard sell, as it's not exactly the best specified device you can get for your money at this price point.

In Taiwan you can pick up the similarly spec'd HTC Touch 3G for the same kind of money and this handset is likely to be Motorola's biggest competitor against the A3100. Although the A3100 isn't available immediately, you can pre-order it now with shipping dates set between the 20th and 26th of this month.
