AMD plans to launch new chipset simply called the AMD 870. This new product is an HT3 chipset with support for AM3 socket and 1x16 PCIe gen2 slot. We are not sure if this chipset will be able to support 2X8 PCIe configurations.

This is a discrete chipset that doesn’t have any graphics core and it uses FCBGA 21mm package. Its TDP will stay at 13W.

This chipset will use cheaper SB600, SB700, SB710 and SB750 but won’t use the more feature rich SB850. It is expected in April 2010 and you can bet that it will come on cheaper or should we say more affordable boards.
