AMD's RD790 is commercially better known as the AMD 790FX discrete chipset and it has been around for more than six months.

In June, AMD plans to re-launch this platform and to power it with its upcoming SB750 Southbridge. The new Southbridge will support all the features available in the SB700 with the addition of RAID 5 support.

SB700 couldn’t cope with RAID 5, but the SB750 can. Besides RAID 5 support, the new chipset supports RAID 0, 1 and 10. This looks like it will be the best Southbridge that AMD has designed and it can support up to 12 USB 2.0 ports and 6 SATA devices, IDE and Audio.

The new boards powered by the AMD 790FX chipset and SB750 will offer a better overclocking and support for 140W CPUs. The reference design can support four PCIe 2.0 slots for graphics probably at x8, one PCIe x4 and one PCI. We also noticed that the Northbridge has to be actively cooled.
