AMD 770 and 780G-based

Sapphire has announced a pair of new motherboards for AMD's socket AM2+. First up is the PC-AM2RX780 AMD 770 based board, which should be a fairly affordable no-frills board, although saying that, Sapphire has put a pair of x16 slots on the board, and so as long as there's driver support, this board might be able to do CrossFire.

The board also has a pair of PCIe x1 slots and PCI slots. Sadly, it's using the old SB600 Southbridge, but at least this should keep the price down. This means that there's only support for four SATA drives and two IDE drives. The rear I/O consists of two PS/2 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1-channel audio with coaxial S/PDIF in and out.

The PI-AM2RS780G is a mATX board based on the AMD 780G chipset and it has the new SB700 Southbridge, which allows for a total of six SATA ports. The board does, of course, feature integrated graphics and Hybrid CrossFire support and it has a DVI and D-sub output. Also around the back are a pair of PS/2 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and 7.1-channel analog audio outputs.

For expansion there's a single x16 slot and two PCI slots, and we'd like to have seen that fourth slot which is missing for some reason. This board also has a small debug LED display. No pricing details were revealed, but we'd expect both boards to be quite affordable.
