Offers real performance benefit

HKEPC has got their hands on J&W's AMD 780G board, which we told you about here and this seems to be the first board to utilize the SidePort memory option by adding a 64MB of Qimonda DDR2 memory to the board.

You might not think that this would offer much of a performance increase compared to relying solely on the shared system memory, but you might be surprised how much of a difference it makes. Although it also seems to depend heavily on the speed of the GPU in the IGP, as at the default speed of 500MHz, the best case scenario was in Far Cry where the gain was about 3fps.

However, HKEPC overclocked the IGP to 950MHz, as the J&W motherboard allows for GPU overclocking and the combination of the two allowed for Far Cry to give a playable frame rate of 33fps at 1,280x800. Serious Sam 2 was the only other game that managed to get over 30fps in their tests, but it still shows that this IGP has a lot more power than previous IGP solutions.
