The new RAIDDrive

Following in the steps of OCZ, Super Talent has announced its RAIDDrive series of PCI-Express SSDs. Similar to the OCZ ZDrive, Super Talent's RAIDDrive uses PCI-Express x8 slot for data transfer, and can be equipped with either MLC or SLC flash memory.

The new Super Talent RAIDDrive series is still under development, but for now it has been announced that it will support up to 2TB of storage, use on-board DRAM cache, and should provide impressive read and write speeds of up to 1.2GB/s and 1.3GB/s. According to the announcement, Super Talent will allow users to configure the drives with an internal RAID5 in order to give some extra data protection.

The new RAIDDrive will be available in three different series, RAIDDrive ES, RAIDDrive WS and RAIDDrive GS series. The ES stands for Enterprise Servers and this one will be optimized for intensive applications such as database transaction processing, business intelligence, and virtualization. The ES series should come with a battery in order to protect date in the event of power loss.

The WS will target workstation users and will be optimized for animation, video editing and similar applications, while the last one, the RAIDDrive GS will target gamers, or basically, simple consumers.

Unfortunately, the availability date or the price of any of these drives haven't been announced, but Super Talent did announce that it will show more performance details in June. The price will of course depend on the price of flash memory chips at the time of the launch, but we don't expect these to be very cheap.
