Big shiny cube with oodles of space

Western Digital might not be the biggest hard drive manufacturer out there, but the company seems to have a knack of coming up with some rather outstanding products from time to time; and its new ShareSpace NAS is likely to appeal to a wide range of potential customers.

The ShareSpace will be available in either 2TB or 4TB and it has three USB ports which can either be used for expanding the storage capacity or for backing up the ShareSpace. The front USB port also features a push-button transfer which allows the ShareSpace to copy all data from a device plugged into the front USB space.

Accessing the data on the ShareSpace is done via Gigabit Ethernet and it's supplied with backup software for up to three PCs in the box that automatically backs up your PC.  The ShareSpace also supports iTunes streaming, an FTP and HTTP download manager, remote access software, Microsoft Active Directory support and a built-in FTP server.

The hard drives can be configured in a RAID 0, 1 or 5 setup, depending on your needs, and the hard drives in the ShareSpace uses WD GreenPower technology which allows them to spin down during less intensive tasks which results in power saving.

The 4TB model is listed at US$999 (€707/£562), while the 2TB model is available for US$699 (€495/£393) and both models are available as of right now.

You can find the product page here and a review over at RegHardware here.
