Our colleagues from PCGamesHardware.de have managed to get their hands on some info on Western Digital's new Raptor. It is 2.5-inch hard drive placed in a 3.5-inch WD IcePAK cooling case.
The VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS, spins at Raptor's standard 10,000RPM and comes with 300GB of capacity with 16MiByte of cache. The drive now supports SATA 3.0 Gbit/s, higher data rate of 120MB/s, lower read seek time at 4.2ms and it has lowered write seek time to 4.7ms.
The new VelociRaptor is a two-platter, four-head 2.5-inch hard drive placed in a WD IcePak cooling enclosure which should reduce the temperature of this 2.5-inch speeding dinosaur by about 7 °C. The MTBF (Mean time between failures) is also improved to 1.4M hours. As twith he previous generation of Raptors, this one will also come with a 5-year warranty.
Of course, when it comes out, it will be faster than any other drive on the market.
