Deep in the heart of Texas
Samsung Electronics has opened a giant plant to supply US customers with memory chips used for mobile devices.
The plant, in Austin, Texas, is as large as nine football fields. It will produce 300 millimetre wafers. The plan is to build 60,000 such wafers every month.
The Austin plant will be Samsung's major US source for flash memory.
It stands next to the company's existing semiconductor plant in Austin which was completed in 1997.
