Computex 08: Works

VIA managed to get the demo of its Nano CPU-based 1.2GHz single-core CPU and chinese manufacturer Thongfang and this was the fist and only Notebook prototype we've had a chance to see. Since Atom made small notebooks so sexy, VIA got a lot of attention.

VIA decided not to show ITX 2.0 its platform that it develops with Nvidia, but we guess that is Nvidia's secret, as they seems to be dominant in this relationship.

The small notebook looks okay, but as this is a first prototype it's hard to get many real conclusions. The prototype runs rather hot and windows runs okay, but we didn’t really have the chance to test it.

The CPU retail and OEM availability are still some time away, but Via at least has a chance to come back, as Nano is supposed to be far better than C7. This is something that we need to see and we really want to know how Atom goes against this new Nano.

The Thongfang is a 10.2-inch design and VIA Nano is powered with VX700 chipset and unichrome 2 3D AGP subsystem, while we believe that the final sub notebooks will come with a new VX700 chipset.

The sub notebook itself comes with 512MB memory, has 80GB Hard drive, weights 1.3KG with 6-cell 4000mAh battery and has Wifi and 1.3 Mpix camera.
