Computex 08: Utilization at 85+ percent

Nice people
at J & W have let us play with its upcoming Atom barebones, based on their own Atom motherboard and we have to say that the platform plays DivX, AVI and DVD just fine, but it struggles to play HD content at 720P.

Once you start a file it utilizes between 75 and 100 percent of your CPU time, with 85 as the number that shows most often and we’ve noticed that sometimes the playback would stutter and won’t look smooth.

We’ve pictured a fanless Atom system from J & W company and pictured the utilization at HD 720P file. Here is how it looks, but Intel called us to say that Atom is out of order core, and therefore sometimes doesn’t do certain things well, and HD and rendering are some of them.

Since most of the Atoms will get into small notebooks it doesn’t really matter, but just have in mind that Atom won’t really play HD 1080P anytime soon.
