Computex 08: VIA chipset or Nvidia?

Tomorrow is a big day for VIA. It finally has a chance to get back together with with one of its previous worst enemies, the green company called Nvidia.

But if VIA hates anyone more than Nvidia, the company who destroyed its AMD chipset business, that would be Intel, which almost completely destroyed VIA's P4 chipset business.

There will be vendors that are happy to take a look at VIA's Nano CPU and we've managed to take a picture of the one soldered on the board. The CPU is branded as VIA NANO, ALL CAPS 1200/800+ and according to VIA's Website this should be the U2500 CPU with 1.2GHz core clock and FSB 800MHz. That is just a marketing name for the Isaiah codenamed CPU developed in 65nm with a 100 Miliwatt idle claim. We are still not too happy about the fan on top of the CPU, even though it is a rather small fan.

The CPU itself is soldered on the board and the specification sheet claims that the board is powered by a VX800 chipset that has Integrated Mpeg 2/4, a VC1 and WMV9 decoding accelerator, dual independent display and HD video playback.
