Fast, but the software isn't catching up
Intel has launched the Core i7 980X, a 3.33GHz six core aimed at demanding users who need an extra edge in multi threaded applications.
We won't bore you with the spec, as we're mentioned it quite a few times already. Several sites have already posted reviews, and although they are very positive, a lot of software just won't make use of the extra cores. However, a lot of professional software will be able to harness every single core and thread and 3D artists and video pros will love it. Gamers should probably stay away from it, at least for the time being.
Anand loved the new chip, but noted that the $999 price tag was a bit too high. Benchmark Reviews also didn't like the price, but it was a bit disappointed with 980X's overclocking potential. Legit Reviews claims the 980X exceeded expectations, but it also noted marginal performance increases in some apps and the high price as drawback.
