Entry Level and Workstation
Sandy Bridge will of course find its way into Intel's server lineup and this should happen in Q1 2011. This is only in case if this processor doesn’t get delayed again, as originally this CPU was expected at some point of Q4 2010.
Sandy Bridge has new instruction and monolithic integrated graphics core, memory and CPU, all in one chip and in workstation and entry lever server market comes in Bromolow platform. This platform also has Cougar Point chipset and brings SATA 3.0 and a few other neat things.
This platform supports dual and quad core Sandy Bridge CPUs and memory from DDR3 800, DDR3 1066 all the way to DDR3 1333MHz.
Intel AMT, Turbo boost, Intel VT and Hyper threading are among things that you can expect from these new CPUs but as far as we know it will only support USB 2.0. I guess that Intel believes that you don’t need USB 3.0 on such a platform, at least not at this time. Workstation people will certainly disagree, but there will be some boards with external SATA 6Gbps support.
