VIA has announced a revamp of its Nano series CPUs. Dubbed Nano 3000, the new 64-bit Isaiah-based parts take aim at Intel's Atom lineup, and judging by the spec, they're an interesting alternative.
The Nano 3000 series encompasses a total of seven CPUs, with clocks ranging from 1GHz to 2GHz. The U3xxx series will feature clocks from 1GHz to 1.4GHz and impressive idle power consumption of just 100mW. The L3050 and L3100 are clocked at 1.8GHz and 2GHz respectively, but they consume 500mW while idling.
All 3000 series CPUs feature VIA's VT virtualization, SSE4 instruction set support and run on an 800MHz FSB. They are pin compatible with previous VIA Nano and C7 CPUs. VIA claims they will offer a 20 percent performance boost compared to current generation Nano processor and that they will consume up to 20 percent less power.
VIA has sampled the new processors to its partners and board makers and it hopes to start mass production in Q1 2010, just in time for Intel's Pine Trail launch.
