ATIC announces bit to buy Chartered Semiconductor

Abu Dhabi-based tech investment fund ATIC has announced a bid to acquire Chartered Semiconductors.

A year ago ATIC and AMD launched a joint venture spinoff of AMD's foundry business, Globalfoundries. ATIC plans to integrate Chartered into Globalfoundries, acquiring a vast customer base and Chartered's infrastructure.

The deal is valued at $3.9 billion, a 14.2 percent premium over the last monthly average of Chartered's market capitalization.
