Gets replaced by a new one

Nehalem
based Skulltrail should launch in the next month or so and this will naturally all be based on Nehalem EP dual socket platform. This machine will have eight physical cores and sixtreen hypertreaded ones and should be quite fast.

In rendering and some other tasks it will be the fastest workstation / show off machine that money can buy.

With this in mind, Intel has informed its partners that its overpriced $1499 CPU, branded Core 2 Exterme QX9775, will receive the infamous product discontinuance notice in June while the official end of life for this product should happen at some point in Q3 2009.

As Q3 begins on coming Tuesday, June 1st so after this date, there is a big chance that you won't be able to return the 9775 chips back to Intel, but this is something for computer resellers to worry about.

The new Nehalem based Skulltrail should be launching shortly, probably with the same $1499 price tag.
