The Foundry Co,
AMD's spin off funded by Dubai's Mubadala Development, or the Advanced Technology Investment Company of Abu Dhabi, and subsidized by the great State of New York to the tune of $1.2 billion, has unveiled its plans for its new fab, to be built in Malta, NY.

The company plans to build 1.3 million square feet of manufacturing space on a 222 acre plot at the Luther Forest Technology Campus. AMD's, or should we say The Foundry's new state of the art facility will be comprised of a two-story 883,000-square-foot wafer fabrication building, a three story support building, a central utility building and an administration building.

The impressive facility is expected to cost $4.6 billion, and if AMD shareholders approve the ATIC deal, the joint venture partnership could be finalized within days. However, the immense facility itself will become operational in 2012. In case AMD's shareholders for some reason don't approve the Abu Dhabi deal, the state's $1.2 billion inscentive package will expire in July.

Mike Relyea, the executive director of the Luther Forest Technology Campus, optimistically expects the new plant could bring 5,000 to 10,000 new jobs to the tech campus. AMD says the facility will employ about 1,500 once it's up and running.
