The guys over at Expreview got hold of an Athlon 6500 Black Edition, CPU and put it through its paces.
This is a 65nm Kuma dual-core clocked at 2.3GHz and possibly the fastest Kuma we'll see in 65nm. Expreview tried it out on a Foxconn A79A-S 790GX board and managed to overclock it to 3.3GHz using a Phenom stock cooler. Of course, clock to clock it outperformed the old K8 Athlons, and it proved to be quite a potent overclocker.
There's a downside, too. The power consumption was rather high and the new CPU ended up using 20W more than a 2.6GHz Brisbane-based Athlon. All in all, it looks like a rather nice piece of kit and Expreview is describing it as the best dual-core AMD ever. However, this is still not enough to take on Intel in this market segment. Hopefully, it will end up on the affordable side, which would give it a fighting chance.
