Trio of new tri-cores coming soon

8750 Black Edition and two energy efficient models

AMD is
expanding its energy efficiency fetish to its tri-core Phenom series with two new CPUs and it's launching the first unlocked tri-core, too.

The Phenom X3 8750 got the Black Edition treatment. Like the plain 8750 it runs at 2.4GHz and has a 95W TDP. Nothing spectacular, but an unlocked CPU is a welcome addition to the affordable tri-core series.

On the energy efficient side, AMD has rolled out the 8450e at 2.1GHz with a TDP of 65W, 30W less than the regular 8450.

The only truly "new" CPU is the Phenom X3 8250e. It's the slowest tri-core, clocked at just 1.9GHz, and it, too, has a 65W TDP. We're expecting this part to end up quite cheap, and it will probably be the most interesting of the trio.

We still don't have the exact prices or availability dates, but the new CPUs should appear soon. Heka and Rana 45nm tri-cores are still a long way to go.
