Intel plans to update its Nehalem family in Q3 2009 and at that time, it plans to bring the new multi-threaded quad-core in the block. Bloomfield remains dominant on high performance roadmap and Intel’s new quad-core, again based on the Nehalem architecture, is called Lynnfield.

This is again a quad-core CPU with support for eight threads, something that is unique to Intel, and this new CPU again has 8MB of Intel smart cache.

This CPU supports Intel turbo boost technology and dual-channel DDR3 memory, which clearly means that it will be a bit underspeced compared to Bloomfield. Bloomfield has a three-way DDR3 memory controller.

Lynnfield supports one 16X graphics, or two with 8X PCIe speeds, and we suspect that this will be the quad-core for the masses, with pretty affordable prices.

If all goes well it will be available in about one year, in Q3 2009.
