We have been told that Dirk Meyer’s promotion to a CEO is not as big of a deal as the market reacted. Some people who know how AMD breeds have told us that Dirk was acting as CEO for more than a year now.
Mighty Hector Ruiz was focusing on asset smart, later asset smart strategy while Dirk has been working his butt off to try to get AMD on the right track.
Ever since the Barcelona failure, they have been trying to get a better CPU out and there have been lot of canceliled projects in both desktop and especially the server area.
Dirk or not, AMD will have a hard road ahead of it in competing with Intel in 2009 and with Nehalem and its iterations behind corner, it won’t be easy.
