Lynnfield and Havendale in Q3 '09

If you're waiting to upgrade your system and hoping to go for a mainstream Nehalem based CPU, then we suggest you stop waiting and get something now, as otherwise you've got another year or so to wait until Intel is going to deliver what you want.

According to roadmap details that have appeared on Expreview, both the Lynnfield and Havendale processors based on the mainstream Nehalem cores won't land until sometime in Q3 2009. That's a year or so from now, which is a long wait and it's still uncertain if it'll be worth the wait.

The Lynnfield processor will support a pair of x8 PCIe slots for graphics, four cores with eight-way multi-threading thanks to Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, 8MB of cache and an integrated dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

The Havendale will be Intel's first processor to feature integrated graphics, but this limits it to a dual-core design with four-way multi-threading and 4MB of cache. Both processors support Intel's Turbo Boost technology and use a DMI interface to communicate with the Ibex Peak ICH, although the Havendale also appears to use an FDI bus which might be related to Intel's Flash Data Integrator technology, but we're not sure if it's the same technology or not at this stage.
