250 design wins

Intel has finally launched Centrino 2. The new brand comes wrapped around the Montevina platform and it features a few new things, including support for 1.066MHz FSB, 6MB L3 CPUs, P45 / G45 chipsets and a new wireless card called WiFi Link 5000 series and Wimax.

Intel claims 250 design wins and we also heard that Centrino 2 will get ot average 100 to €200 more expensive than similar Centrino Duo-based systems.

Intel has launched 5 new CPUs and more will come shortly. It looks Centrino 2 is definitely ready for the back-to-school period and that it will become a dominant selling platform in months to come.

Centrino 2 brings a bit better chipset, but apart from Wimax there is nothing to really be excitied about and for Wimax you need an infrastructure that we simply don’t have in most parts of Europe. Despite this fact, people will still buy it, as Centrino 2 sounds much better than Centrino.
