Yesterday, Intel officially opened their first high-volume 45nm FAB outside the U.S. It cost them around $3.5 billion, and it’s located in Kiryat Gat, a city in southern Israel.

Intel claims that 300nm wafers lower production costs by 40 percent, and this is Intel’s seventh 300mm wafer factory, but only the third to produce 45nm chips.

The FAB takes up an incredible 28,300 square meters, with 20,000 square meters of clean room space.
