For a whole system without display

Intel has something called consumer desktop system price points and it lets its partners know the price for which they can sell a specific platform. Since Atom is about to be launched, Intel has advised its partners about the pricing of desktop Atom machines.

Lars already took some picture of MSI's desktop Wind here and here and now we have Intel's guidelines on the Atom desktop pricing.

Desktop Atom systems will use the Atom 230 CPU with a single core and 1.6GHz clock speed and a 945GC based motherboardboard with integrated GMA 950 graphics. Intel suggests that system builders will put 512MB of memory, an 80GB HDD and a DVD-ROM in the machines.

All this with some Linux distribution or Windows XP should cost less than $249 and of course, Intel mentions the price without a monitor. Intel believes that such a machine will be great for instant messaging, email, Web browsing and listening to music. We can add that it should be enough for watching movies on.
