The wholesale price

Intel Atom processor that will fit in the Nettop desktop platform are quite cheap things. While the board with a  CPU will cost around $58, the CPU itself for desktop systems, the Atom 1.6GHz will cost a mere $25.

The desktop Atom has the same 1.6GHz clock, 512KB cache and FSB 533, and it fits in socket BGA437. You can order one as of the 11th of May, but only if you are a big system builder, as the platform launches on June 3rd, the first day of Computex.

Most of the retail products will sell as CPUs on a small desktop board combo and we expect a bit more than €60 retail/e-tail price in Euroland. Well, we are used to being ripped off by American companies and there is not much we can do, as this is still considered cheap. Americans will pay a bit less due to the conversion rate and a weak dollar.

Funnily enough, the notebook Atom CPU, will cost close to $40 a piece, and in reality it is the same as the desktop part except for the socket.
