Prototypes in Q3

An alliance led by IBM announced that they have developed 32 nanometer chips, a next step in shrinking and making chips more power efficient.

The transistors used in these new chips are built using a new material called "high-K/metal gate," a material based on chemical element hafnium that makes 32 nanometers posible, and we should see some prototypes around Q3.  Furthermore, there are even indications that this process can be used to reach as tiny as 22 nanometers in the future.

These chips should run 35% better than current 45nm generation and consume 30-50% less power, and that's not all. Hafnium enables for keeping the old ways of manufacturing, so no changes in the design process will be made, and companies will be able to keep their costs down.
