FSB 1066 and 6MB cache

The hottest thermal dissipation that is acceptable for notebooks is the magical number 35W and it looks like Intel can put a 2.8GHz Core 2 duo 45nm-based Penryn inside Centrino 2 platform.

Centrino 2 or platform codenamed Montevina will also bring the 1066MHz FSB support, while the cache size increases from previous 4MB at Merom core to 6MB at Penryn.

The top-end performance dual-core CPU for Centrino 2 will be branded T9600 and this is the third 9600 brand that we've seen in the IT industry recently. A few years ago ATI's top mainstream was Radeon 9600, today Nvidia has its top mainstream branded as Geforce 9600GT and T9600 is Intel’s top notebook CPU.

This 2.8GHz CPU with 6MB L2 cache has 35W TDP and supports PGA and BGA socket P pin output sockets in 35x35mm size. It should launch in late Q2 together with the Centrino 2 platform.
