Two for $3,239.98 + motherboard

It looks like Skulltrail will end up being the most expensive platform of all times. We just saw that newegg.com has listed an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 Yorkfield 3.2GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 771 150W Quad-Core Processor – Retail, that is only compatible with the Skulltrail (D5400XS) platform.

The motherboard itself has to cost around $400, and don’t forget that FBDIMM memory at 800MHz isn’t that cheap.

You can easily break $4,000 for a motherboard, 2GB of memory and two Core 2 Extreme QY9775, and this already sounds way too steep.

The CPU is highly overclockable and works at 3.2GHz out of the box, but we are still not convinced that it's worth all of $1,619.99. We expected around $1,000 per CPU, and even at that price point we would think it’s too much, but $1,600 is way out of line.

If you still want one, you can get it here.
