Will acquire Sirenza Microdevices


RF Micro Device
s Inc., a chipset manufacturer for cellular handsets has made a deal to acquire Sirenza Microdevices, Inc., a supplier of radio frequency (RF) components, for about $900 million.

This will allow RF Micro to expand its portfolio into higher-growth RF markets that are not cellular based, such as cable television line amplifiers and power amplifiers for WiMAX applications. The deal reportedly includes $300 million in cash, with the remainder of the $600 million deal in stock.
