Ruiz tells shareholders
Hector Ruiz, AMD's chairman told the company's annual shareholder meeting that its new Barcelona technology will save the company.
Ruiz admitted that AMD was two or three quarters behind the larger Intel in improving manufacturing capabilities and would not manage 45nm production until mid-2008.He also confessed that the company's financial performance was disaster.
However he said that by increasing the company's emphasis on graphics processors, focusing on energy efficiency and developing global market opportunities in developing nations, AMD would turn around.
Ruiz pushed AMD's 50-15 initiative to help deliver computing capabilities and Internet access to half of the world's population by 2015.
He said that the new quad-core *Barcelona* chip is due in the second half of this year and new mobile computing processors are in development and these will prove popular.
