Computex 08:  512-bit / 240 Shaders

Geforce
GTX 280 is the official name of Nvidia's next generation product and the faster of two will have a whopping 240 Shaders. The chip is 65nm, very hot, and is the biggest graphic chip ever built, but at the same time it will end up being the fastest thing around.

The chip has 512-bit memory controller supporting GDDR3 memory and it comes with 1GB memory.

The runner-up is branded Geforce GTX 260 and this chip has 896MB memory and a 448-bit memory controller and you can clearly see that this is the same chip with one cluster (1/8) disabled.

It also looks that Geforce GTX 260 should end up with 210 Shaders, but we still haven’t confirmed this number. If you assume that GT200 or D10U chip has eight clusters and if you disable one you end up with 210 Shaders.

Both chips support Physics and Cuda. They should launch in week 25 that starts with the 16th of June. We don’t know the final frequencies but we should find this out soon enough.

If you look at the articles below it looks we were right all along.
