ASUS has joined the HD video format war, and took a stand. According to ASUS, Blu-ray is the way to go, and do it with ASUS BC-1205PT.

The BC-1205PT Blu-ray drive is internal SATA drive with 4MB data buffer, that will burn DVD±R/RW discs at up to 12x speed, and up to 4x speed for the dual-layer discs. On the burning list you can also find DVD-RAM with up to 5x speed, and ussual CD-R/RW burning abilities.

Despite the fact that we expected and wanted to see the BD-R or BD-RE discs on the writing list, that is not likely going to happen. You can just read these formats, and up to 5x speed. It comes bundled with Cyberlink BD Solution software.

The availability date is not set yet, but the battle of HD video giants continues.
