Nvidia Kepler 28nm samples in house

Written by Fuad Abazovic

On track, official

AMD Southern Islands series GPUs, including Tahiti and some other exotic names are about to show their face in the second week of January and if all goes well we should see Radeon HD 7000 generation cards by January 10th.

Naturally we wanted to ask Nvidia what is going on with its 28nm graphics generation codenamed Kepler. We were positively surprised that Senior Product PR Manager at Nvidia, Igor Stanek has decided to confirm that Nvidia is on schedule with its Kepler roadmap.

He said: “We are on track with our Kepler roadmap. We have 28nm silicon in house now. Our transition to 28nm is going better than 40nm, and yields are better than our original plan.”

Nvidia didn’t go into any specifics defining “on track” and when we will see the actual cards, but we can only hope that by Q2 2012 something should be out in the wild. We will probably know more at CES 2012 in the early days of January and it can also happen that Kepler comes much close to Radeon HD 7000 than many believe.

However, it’s certain that Radeon HD 7000 will first 28nm graphics product to market.
