Tesla Motors’ new sedan to feature Nvidia chips

Written by

Call Tegra for infotainment

Nvidia’s Tegra chips have managed to find their way to a somewhat unlikely customer, California-based car maker Tesla Motors.

Tesla’s new Model S, the company’s first sedan, will feature an infotainment system based on Nvidia’s SoC. The system will feature a 17-inch touchscreen in the center console and it will incorporate infotainment, navigation. It appears that a secondary 12.3-inch screen will serve as an-all digital instrument cluster and it will deliver vehicle info. The smug will love it.

Nikola Tesla would have probably been proud to see his name on such a geeky car, but we are guessing Jeremy Clarkson will hate it for a number of reasons.

It’s also worth noting that Nvidia struck a deal with Audi to use Nvidia GPUs and other chips in Audi’s next generation MMI system.

I don't know about other jurisdictions but in at least most of Canada a TV in the front of a car would probably be looked at very skeptically by safety law.

Too bad it isn't using a GTX470/480/570/580, it would be one hot car if it did!

Imagine Clarkson would go , " I have a power hungry thing all around me , and a huge monster nvidia gtx-something eating up all the power in 3 seconds "
