Console maps will be smaller in Battlefield 3

Written by David Stellmack

Some compromises necessary for best experience
The maps in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield 3 will be a bit smaller and more compact then their PC counter parts. This compromise was necessary in order to yield the best possible experience on the console systems.

While the console versions of the maps will be smaller, it is said that the size is roughly 75% to 80% of the original map size. By way of comparison, it has been suggested that the Battlefield Bad Company 2 maps are a good point of reference; and those maps didn’t seem that small at all.

The decision to reduce the map size on the console versions was said to have been made not only to give players the best possible experience, but to maintain the pace during game play. It is unlikely that the decision will turn out to be a bad one for Battlefield 3; the game is going head to head with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, in which the series has always had a very quick game pace in the popular multiplayer mode.

I'm sure their gonna have to do a little more than just smaller maps to get that to run on consoles....

I feel sorry for warrior and his console taste, but after all brain capacity is proportional to map size

I play FPS games on both the Xbox and my PC. And I must say I do enjoy the console versions much more. They are more difficult as most of the players are just flat out better. I find this to be because of the aiming system. With the PC, shooting an enemy in the head at 300 yards with a pistol is no problem, its a simple point and click. This is hardly realistic and leads to very tactless gameplay. It mostly end up, whoever sees the other first wins. I see that most PC gamers are frustrated when playing on consoles as it is more difficult/realistic to aim, they have to rely on their teammates extensively, and they have to face very innovative and strategic enemies. They normally feel very overwhelmed. But just so we can clarify, irl being able to headshot someone at 100ft is very impressive

And to follow up, The console versions lead to more realistic and strategic gameplay because it is much harder to aim. Also vehicle controls always feel more natural as you have joysticks. The graphics on a pc may be better, but every single time I come back from my xbox and go back to the pc, its a joke how easy it is and how bad everyone else is. "Be in the company of those who are skilled, and you also, will become skilled." (If you always play on the easiest setting you'll never get better)
Comparing the two is really just like saying jerking off is better than the real deal.
Who cares if the maps are smaller, these players are gonna have faster and more difficult gameplay everyday, then they will come to your PC version, own you, then laugh in your face for being so bad.

So to sum it up, you say its better on consoles because the aiming is inaccurate and hardly got anything to do with the player but the limited controls ?

Don't feel sorry for me PC tard. I continue to have the best gaming experience possible and ALWAYS will. This game (just like Crysis) is waaay overhyped... on graphics alone! Its all about beating MW3 instead of bringing the best possible experience to gamers. The game is already showing its warts and its not even here yet. They're constantly coming clean about how its NOT going to be what they said it was eariler as to let the gamers down softly by warning them ahead of time. Like I said before, the CONSOLE will decide this and not the PC. $h!t on the console version and you $h!t on your sales.

No, that is whats said about the PC thief. Shooting head shots @ 300 yds with a pistol is considered "unrealistic" in the console world and REAL world. But in the point-n-click world of the overhyped PC its normal.

It makes sense anyways from the console hardware and since less players can be on the same console map at the same time. Having fewer players spread over a large map just turns both sides basically into a sniping standoff which isn't always fun or fast paced. Then again with the return of aircraft and such, who knows. I guess Warrior will be making a comment about this, but it looks like developers are choking on old console hardware. Time for some new consoles or go PC this time around.
