Personally I like Arm and possibly Tegra in this sector, although probably with a focus on smaller devices there. Some friends and I are actually putting together (slowly) our own little smart device, will probably document it all online so that others can do the same easily, will probably sell predone PCBs so people don't have to go through that hassle
