this is awesome finally nvidea feel threatened enough to drop prices; just like you said their whole marketing game relies on them having the 'top end gaming card' so they're now doing whatever they can to keep people onboard.

Personally I feel ATI's cards are pretty competatively priced, although I do believe nVidea's offerings are not competatively priced enough and although they are on the top now If ATI come out with a really good card at it's current pricing it could be a massive blow against nVidea's market dominance

So is this $499 GTX 280 price still happening?

Everywhere I look the GTX 280 is priced around $659 at the moment.
